Wildflower Unadulterated Unheated Organic Raw Honey 1.5lbs 700g

Wildflower honey 1.5lbs - 700g

Honeyflow of 2014

Our honey comes from an organic farm that has not seen any pesticides or herbicides over the past 15 years! Our bees take nectar from a variety of wildflowers to make this wonderful, medium strength aromatic honey.

All our honey is raw - taken from the beehive and then extracted without adding heat. Raw honey contains pollen and may contain small particles of wax. Raw honey is usually sought after by allergy sufferers as the pollen impurities are thought to lessen the sensitivity to hay fever. Honey is considered to have antiseptic properties and is used to cure colds/coughs/bronchitis. Some claim that honey mixed with cinnamon in warm water helps with high blood pressure, insomnia, arthritis and stress.

Honey comes in a glass jar and will weigh 700g. Our honey has not had any sugar added to it, it has not been heated or diluted in any way whatsoever. PLEASE NOTE that our bees are NOT fed any sugar syrup during the honeyflow - on rainy days, we simply lose the honey they've already collected. Doing anything else, in our eyes, would be fabricating the honey. The bees are of course fed sugar syrup once the honeyflow is over for the winter. No frames are taken out of the hives once feeding begins, so that at no point syrup would get mixed with the honey.

PLEASE NOTE that usually pure honey crystallises within 3 weeks AT MOST. Runny honey tends to undergo a heating process whereby all of the natural honey goodness is lost. Our honey is NOT heated. It has an expiry date of 4 years.

1. Helps to prevent cancer and heart disease: in a study on mice, honey, propolis and royal jelly were applied to the mice prior to their being injected with tumor cells in their lungs. The study concluded that the cancer growth was inhibited by the natural bee products and cancer cells that were already present did not survive.

2. Reduces ulcers and other gastrointestinal disorders: recent research shows that honey treatment may help disorders such as ulcers and bacterial gastroenteritis.

3. Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-fungal: “All honey is antibacterial, because the bees add an enzyme that makes hydrogen peroxide” - Peter Molan, director of the Honey Research Unit at the University of Waikato in New Zealand.

4. Increases athletic performance: ancient Olympic athletes would eat honey and dried figs to enhance their performance. This has now been verified with modern studies, showing that it is superior in maintaining glycogen levels and improving recovery time than other sweeteners.

5. Reduces cough and throat irritation.

6. Blood sugar regulation: even though honey contains simple sugars, it is NOT the same as white sugar or artificial sweeteners. Its exact combination of fructose and glucose actually helps the body regulate blood sugar levels.

7. Heals wounds and burns: external application of honey has been shown to be as effective as conventional treatment with silver sulfadiazene. It is speculated that the drying effect of the simple sugars and honey’s anti-bacterial nature combine to create this effect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is raw honey really superior?
Raw honey, which has not been pasteurized, clarified or filtered, contains an abundance of vitamins and minerals, and is a natural and powerful medicine superior to the processed honey most commonly available. Conventional honey has been processed to prolong its shelf life and improve its appearance - it is during that processing that many of the phytonutrients found in raw honey as it exists in the hive, are largely removed. Raw honey, for example, contains small amounts of the same resins found in propolis. Propolis is a complex mixture of resins and other substances that honeybees use to seal the hive and protect it from bacteria and other micro-organisms. Honeybees make propolis by combining plant resins with their own secretions. This substance has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties.

Other phytonutrients found both in honey and propolis have been shown to posssess cancer-preventing and anti-tumor properties. Researchers have discovered that these substances prevent colon cancer in animals by shutting down activity of two enzymes, phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C and lipoxygenase. A 1992 study published in Chemical-Biological Interactions found that caffeic acid esters (the substances which give propolis a sharp taste like cinnamon) had strong anticancer characteristics when tested on colon cancer cells. Raw honey contains amino acids, vitamins and thousands of beneficial enzymes. When it is extensively processed and heated, the benefits of these phytonutrients are largely eliminated. A study in the Journal of the National cancer Institute in 1948 reported that bee pollen fed to rats halted the proliferation of cancerous tumors.

Raw honey should only be added to foods after they have been cooked and not before, since any exposure to heat risks destroying the beneficial nutrients in the honey.

Hi - i have just bought this honey from you. I just wanted to check if your bees are fed any additional sugar?
They are only fed sugar syrup once the honeyflow is completely over and sugar is only for them to get through the winter. Therefore, no sugar ever enters our honey. Basically, at the end of the honeyflow all frames containing honey are taken out and replaced with empty frames for the bees to start storing sugar syrup for the winter. When it rains during the honeyflow, we simply lose the honey that is already in the hive.

I want to buy some honey to help with my sons gut problems, in your advert you state that the honey will go hard within 3 weeks. Does this mean I must consume the honey within 3 weeks otherwise its useless?
Honey that has not been fabricated retains all its goodness for at least 4-5 years. Any unfabricated honey also crystallises very quickly - within 3 weeks at most - due to a high glucose and fructose content in it.

How do I know that your honey is really raw?
The easiest way to check whether honey is raw is to roll some on a cotton bud and light it. If you hear any sound (crackling, sizzling) or if it does not light, then that honey has had sugar added to it and is not raw. Most of the time it smells like cotton candy when you light it. Real honey just melts when set alight. Hope this helps some of you!
